The valley has known human hand and voice for 10,000 years. Floodplains nourished the Native farmer; waterfalls drew the Victorian vacationer. Today, a 70,000-acre park welcomes those who seek the outdoors close to home. Established by Congress on September 1, 1965, for public outdoor recreation use and for the preservation of scenic, scientific, and historic resources. The area is rich in both cultural and natural history. The ridges and river valley contain streams, waterfalls, geologic features, a diversity of plants and wildlife, and traces of past occupants and cultures. Popular activities include canoeing, rafting, fishing, picnicking, hiking and camping.

Bushkill Falls

Purchase a geographically correct Bushkill Falls Trail Map to navigate all the natural attractions. You can pick the trails you hike based on your ability to visit all eight waterfalls. Children like to participate in the Map Adventure: There are a series of activity stations located throughout the trails and noted in the map legend. Follow the instructions on the Map Adventure Card to qualify for a reward and prizes. The streams feeding the falls are rated Exceptional Value, which means they are among the cleanest and most outstanding waters in all of Pennsylvania. Bushkill Falls is open daily from April through October/November weather permitting. Free parking and picnic area.

Lehigh Gorge State Park

A deep, steep-walled gorge carved by a river, thick vegetation, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls characterizes Lehigh Gorge State Park. In Luzerne and Carbon counties in easter PA, the park follows the Lehigh River from the outlet of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Francis E. Walter Dam at the northern end, to the town of Jim Thorpe at the southern end of the park. Whitewater boating and biking are popular activities.

Blue Mountain Bike Park

Blue Mountain's Bike Park offers 22 trails of lift-serviced downhill mountain biking. There's something for everyone - from hardcore riders looking to improve their skills, to beginners looking to learn and grow! The trails require some prior downhill mountain bike experience and full suspension bikes are highly recommended and are available for rent. The easiest trails on the Mountain contain dirt, berms and rollers as well as steep grades and varied terrain. The intermediate trails contain additional features including small drops, jumps, larger berms and steeper trails. The park's expert trails are steep, rocky, loose, and contain larger jumps and drop offs, for the most experienced riders.
